OUGD601 - Context of Practice 3: Planning (1)

Throughout my essay I would like to address how Graphic Design is more than people think when they walk past it everyday and don’t even notice how much they walk past.  Graphic design has a lot of features such as printmaking, screen-printing, hand lettering, and crafting and many more that have been used in previous rebellion such as the May 1968 rebellion, which used screen-printed techniques to address their messages. Student revolution/May 1968 revolution (important to put in essay).

Another part that I would like to cover is how Fashion Design has been used as a mean for rebellion. How do fashion designers promote a rebellion against/for something that they believe me. (Vivienne Westwood – gay cowboys/environmental campaigns).
I am also interested in how fashion designers use different techniques to promote their beliefs.

I would then like to explain the two together and their similarities and differences between each other. Why the two could be seen as one ‘genre’ (Creatives/designers) and how/why they use their designs to make a difference to the world.

OUGD601 - Context of Practice 3: Dissertation/research question

Research Question: How has Graphic Design and Fashion Design been linked by the theme of rebellion.

I first wanted to find out important questions that could help structure 'sub-titles' that would be further used in my dissertation. I also wanted to learn more about fashion as this is the route I would like to progress in the future. By learning this I had to watch more videos on youtube as well as reading more fashion related books.

Some questions that I might consider to answer within my dissertation.

1. Designers who have had an influence from Graphic Design to Fashion Design?
2. Does autonomy of though exist? If yes why, if no why?
3. What are subliminal messages and the norms.
4. Do we see what they only want us to see?
5. Read Jon Berger. Everything we consume in terms of concepts has already been layed infront of us/ done before.
6. Consumption vs Production
7. Process. How do you actually process your work?
8. Mass production?
9. Gender equality
10. Oldest woman on runway Carmen Orefays. Breaking stereotypes? Creating new social classes?
---- the link between fashion and graphic design in terms of rebellion?
11. Screen vs digital vs general process
12. Post-modernity – How we can be more sustainable. Opposite of being romantic.
Modern – 20th century (1900-1999)
PostModern – 21st Century
13. We are not gullible anymore, we want to know more about the product so we are getting our value for our money. Rebellion against the value? Fair trade?
14. Being aware in a discerning view. Speed of which things are evolving; rapid!
15. Because of the era that we are in, we have a multi dimension view? Question this.
Fluidity of truth – Neither is superior. They just all exist
16. Growth of the INTERNET and TECHNOLOGY?
17. Find out more about Plurality(Not just one)

+ many more that will structure questions that could be used within the dissertation.

Videos that I intend to see to help me gain an understanding.

1. Low and Behold - a documentary about the internet age
2. Hypernormalisation on bbc iplayer.
